A Look Back at 2015
As 2015 draws to a close, I just want to take the time to look back at some of my favourite images taken over the past 12 months. I'm not going to lie, the past year hasn't been easy (I've had my ups and downs!) but I'm so glad I took the plunge and started my own business back in March. The hard work and dedication has been so rewarding, and I've been lucky enough to work with some incredible businesses and organisations throughout the year. I'm so excited about what 2016 will bring for MegsPhotos!
Thank you for the continued love and support, see you in the New Year!
Here Come the Bell's!
I've been looking forward to this wedding for over a year and well, it did not disappoint! Kayla is a good friend of my Mom's, and I was so excited when she asked if I'd photograph her wedding in Worcester. As I live in Plymouth, we booked some time off and travelled up for a long weekend of fun. It was great to visit my hometown and to finally photograph the Bell's in the presence of their wonderful family (and mine!)
I met with Kayla at her parents house the night before her wedding, and I can honestly say she was a nervous wreck! We discussed little details about her big day and it was great to catch up before her wedding and reassure her. When I arrived at Angie and Wayne's the next morning, she was as cool as a cucumber and possibly the most chilled bride I have ever photographed!
Andy looked dashing in his suit, and the bridesmaids and pageboys looked so grown up in their outfits! All ties, handkerchiefs and bridesmaid dresses were a gorgeous Cadbury purple which gave the photographs a lovely colour pop, complimenting those beautiful bouquets!
The wedding went smoothly and the weather was gorgeous, just in time for the ceremony! We had our bride and groom location shoot in Gheluvelt Park, Worcester. I hadn't been there in years, and it was great to incorporate that infamous band stand in their wedding photographs! What a wonderful backdrop!
Thank you Andy and Kayla for choosing me as your wedding photographer. Your friends and family were so welcoming, and it was a pleasure to spend the day with you all. I hope you like your sneak peek!
Bespoke Bride Guide Offer!
This month, I'm pleased to announce that I'm the FEATURED SUPPLIER on the Bespoke Bride Guide Plymouth blog! I spoke with Laura and Sophie of the BBG and shared my top tips for wedding photography, and what to check for when searching for your perfect wedding photographer.
"Engagement shoots are so beneficial! Not only is it important to document and celebrate the fact that you will be getting married, it’s also an amazing opportunity to spend time with your wedding photographer and really get to know them before the BIG day. There’s nothing worse than feeling uncomfortable in front of the camera, so I always recommend taking advantage of a pre-wedding/engagement shoot to get you accustomed to your photographer. Practice makes perfect!”
To read more about what I had to say to the lovely ladies at the BBG, visit the Bespoke Bride Guide Plymouth website! Wedding photography is one of the most important things about your wedding, so take advantage of my offer and get accustomed with your wedding photographer today!
The Muttram's get HITCHED!
I was so eager to photograph Jamie and Jess' wedding, Saturday 1st August 2015 couldn't have come sooner! I'd met the lovely couple only a few months before their initial wedding date and we got on like a house on fire. I was very excited to photograph their big day!
The morning bridal preparations are usually the most hectic time of the day and I honestly can't believe how fast the time went! The flower girls were the sweetest and most well behaved I'd ever met and looked lovely in their little dresses! Jess' wedding dress was probably the most beautiful I'd ever seen. The detail on it was phenomenal and she looked absolutely gorgeous!
Before we knew it, it was time to get into the wedding cars and head to the church. I had to snap a photo of the groomsmen's socks on the way! I asked Jamie if he could buy bright coloured socks for himself, but he did one better!
Photographing this wedding was an absolute pleasure and I'm so thankful for the kindness of both families. It was lovely to meet you all! Congratulations Mr and Mrs Muttram! It was an honour to photograph your wedding day. I wish you both all the best for the future.
Ashleigh & Matt Get Engaged!
Last weekend, I headed to the countryside to meet with Matt and Ashleigh, a couple I met a few weeks ago at the Bespoke Bride Guide's Wedding Showcase. They entered my competiton to win a free engagement shoot, and well, the rest is history! When they asked me if their shoot could take place at home, I jumped at the opportunity. I've always wanted to photograph an engagement shoot on a farm!
This beautiful couple live in the most amazing rural location overlooking Torbay, and it was a pleasure getting to know them both a little better before their wedding next year. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and gave us plenty of options to shoot all over their farmland. (I especially loved riding on the back of their quad bike and making friends with their vast array of animals!)
Congratulations Ashleigh and Matt on your engagement! I hope you enjoyed your shoot as much as I did, and are pleased with your sneak peek photographs!
Jodie & Steve Get Married!
Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of photographing Jodie and Steve's wedding in Hooe, Plymouth. The afternoon started off a little misty, but by the end of the ceremony we were greeted with the most glorious sunshine! (Maybe it had something to do with these gorgeous newlyweds?!)
Jodie wore a stunning ivory Taffeta gown with a delicate lace bolero accompanied by the most beautiful yellow colour scheme. The bridesmaid dresses and bouquets along with the groomsmen's ties and handkerchiefs all donned this wonderful colour and added a lovely colour pop to this traditional Plymouth wedding!
My favourite part of any wedding day is getting to spend time with the bride and groom for their private location shoot. Yesterday, our photoshoot took place at Jennycliff overlooking Plymouth sound and Cornwall and the view was absolutely breathtaking.
Congratulations Steve and Jodie! Thank you for inviting me to share this special day with you both, I hope you love your wedding sneak peek!
A few weeks ago, my pal Aimee (The Plymouth Blogger) told me about a craft fair at the Devonport Guildhall and insisted that I should tag along. When I arrived at the Native Makers Summer Market on Saturday 6th June, I was shocked at how awe inspiring the work of every single vendor was.
From amazing wood carved skateboards to handmade postcards and cakes, the Native Makers Summer Market was beautifully rich in colour and personality, and the diversity of every single vendor was so refreshing. It's rare to come across a craft fair where the quality of work is consistent throughout, and Native Makers should be seriously proud of how amazing and inspiring their Creative Market was!
Native Makers is run by a creative duo who focus on creating a platform for local vendors to be able to showcase their work to the public. As someone who is self employed, I understand the importance of buying locally from artists, and well, I'm so happy that Aimee introduced me to this amazing little company! It's safe to say that we definitely did our part to help the creative community, and I cannot wait to attend the next Native Makers Market!

Share the Love!
Love love love! This is an exciting blog post because in exactly one week, I will have my very own stall at the Devonport Guildhall Wedding Showcase! This is the first time I've ever participated in a wedding fair, and I'm super excited to be a handpicked vendor! The competition for Plymouth photography is as fierce as ever, and I'm eager to stand out from the crowd and show the South West brides-to-be why they should choose me as their wedding photographer!
It's taken a lot of time and effort to organise myself for this event, and the past few days have been exhausting and super rewarding. Not only have I been designing leaflets and flyers, but I've also been relying on the kindness of strangers to help me with the more expensive features of my wedding stall. A very generous Plymouth University lecturer kindly lent me two (huge) easels which saved me a lot of money. We must have looked hilarious walking through the city centre with two humongous pieces of wood! Never-the-less, I'm chuffed to bits with how they look.
The Wedding Showcase is being held by the Bespoke Bride Guide on Sunday 7th June between 11am and 3pm at the Devonport Guildhall, Plymouth. It's completely free, and the first 100 guests will receive a luxury welcome pack with lots of goodies (including my very exclusive offer!) There will also be free cocktails and canapés, so come on couples! Get yourselves to the Plymouth Bespoke Bride Guide Wedding Showcase and make an afternoon of it!
Let's Get To Business!
Just a quick post to rave about how beautiful my new wedding photography business cards are! I've been wanting to order more for at least a year as I've desperately needed a design that appealed to those looking for a wedding photographer, and well, how amazing do they look?! Big thanks to Dan at Graphically Minded for designing something that works so well alongside my website. I'm in love with your clean and professional design!
I'm super pleased with the quality and I'm even more impressed at how quickly they arrived (I only ordered them yesterday!) I have a stall at my very first Wedding Fair at the Devonport Guildhall next month, and I can't wait to hand them out! Well done Solopress, you sure do make a lovely product! Now, who needs a South West wedding photographer?
Ahoy There Mateys!
Dust off your eyepatches folks, it's time to help those pesky pirates find their rum! Join Jonty Depp and his pals at Pirate Weekend as they enjoy the sun, sea and ice cream in the Plymouth Barbican!
The weather was glorious, and it was great to see so many visitors to the event this year. The effort made with the costumes was fantastic, and from tall to small, pirates well and truly took over the waterfront! It was lovely to see all of the local traders embrace their inner pirate, and we thoroughly enjoyed wandering around the Barbican in the sunshine.
Props to my pal Aimee (AKA The Plymouth Blogger) for being as much of a kid as me! Check out Aimee's post about Pirate Weekend here! If you missed all the piratey antics today, then fear not! It's all happening again tomorrow. Now, where DID all the rum go?
Tie That Knot!
'Tis the season to get married! So it's mid May and wedding season is well and truly among us. I have a handful of beautiful couples I'm eager to photograph this year, and I cannot wait to use Plymouth as a backdrop! There's nothing more stunning than a South West summer wedding!
As I've just started my photography business, I've been relentlessly promoting MegsPhotos via social media and the response so far has been fantastic. Ideally, I would like to get some more last minute bookings for wedding photos this year, and I've been thinking of ways I can appeal to those hungry for affordable, beautiful, award winning wedding photography.
So here's the deal, from now until the end of May, I'll be offering £100 off ANY wedding photography package booked with me! Hip hip hooray! If you're getting married or know anyone who is, then please share this offer with them. It's valid until the end of the month, so don't hesitate to get in touch. Happy Wednesday!
Plymouth Blog Meet
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of sharing a spot of tea with some like-minded, creative girls with a passion for blogging. Having never attended a 'meet up' before, I wasn't too sure what to expect, and well, it was amazing! We met at Rumpus Cosy, a kitch, quirky cafe in Plymouth city centre who probably own the most impressive collection of vintage afternoon tea teapots, cups and cutlery I've ever seen!
My pals (and avid bloggers) Payal and Aimee told me about this little event around three weeks back, and I jumped at the idea of meeting new people and collaborating with talented creatives. We spent a couple of hours drinking cucumber water, eating the most beautiful cake I'd ever seen, chatting about our ongoing ventures and washing it all down with a pot of chocolate tea (which was amaaazing!)
To top the afternoon off, organiser Ellie presented us all with a goodie bag, full to the brim with the most amazing gifts and samples from various independent, kind businesses around the UK. One of my particular favourites is the rose body butter from Sweet Cecily's. It smells divine, and is fabulous on my sensitive skin! Thanks everyone for a great afternoon, I can't wait to do it again soon!
Sunny South West
This weekend we headed to Dorset to spend Easter bank holiday in style. For two nights, we did a spot of glamping in Charmouth in Val and Mark's new trailer tent. This was the first time I'd ever stepped into a trailer tent, let alone sleep in one, and it did not disappoint! I've always wanted to know what it felt like to be a rockstar on a tour bus, and there I was living the dream!
Over the weekend we wandered around Weymouth, explored the Jurassic Coastline in West Bay and spent a day in the sun in Lyme Regis. We couldn't have asked for a better few days, the weather was glorious (even if we did get a little sunburnt!)
So now, it's back to reality. I've had lots of bookings and enquiries this week, and I can't wait to be involved in new projects and photograph new things! I'm so excited about what the rest of the month will hold, so keep checking back here for new blog posts!
Oggy Oggy Oggy!
Oi oi oi! What a fabulous food photo session! This afternoon I headed out to the Oggy Oggy Pasty Company in Mayflower Street, Plymouth and spent a few hours photographing their menu and getting to know the lovely staff members. I love food photography, and I've been doing more and more of it recently which I'm extremely happy about!
The main thing that amazes me about the restaurant business is how diverse every single company is. Not only the food, but the personalities behind them. I love meeting the people behind the scenes, and I enjoy hearing passionate stories about the struggles and pleasures of starting a new business.
If ever you're in Plymouth city centre, I highly recommend popping into Oggy Oggy. If it's for a quick coffee or a slap up breakfast, it's a lovely place to watch the world go by whilst enjoying a spot of sun. Malkolm and the gang are the friendliest pasty pros in town, so keep an eye out soon for their new window displays!
Oh no! She's only gone and got herself a blog!
All I can think about right now is how much I'm in need of a holiday. The past few months have been a blur, and I can't believe we're almost at the end of March! The months have felt like the longest and shortest of my life, and can officially say that I'm now a SELF EMPLOYED photographer!
In hindsight, I probably should have started this blog before, but hey, I'm making the effort now and that's all that counts!
2015 has been tough and daunting. The concept of starting my own business was the scariest thing in the world for me to grasp, and it was hard to adjust my life as a dedicated, self employed photographer. I've always had a job, so my photography venture was an entirely new experience, one that no one could have prepared me for. Even so, I cannot begin to tell you how rewarding the hard work and dedication has been. I've not only seen the change in myself, but my work has come on leaps and bounds, and I've grown more confident in my abilities as a photographer. I'm so happy that I took a leap into the unknown, and I'm excited about the next step!
So here I am, being ridiculously honest in my first ever blog post! I don't say it enough, but thanks to those who never gave up on me, and always believed in me and my work. You guys are awesome, and your support keeps motivating me into making something more of myself. Also, thanks to those who doubted me and made me believe that I wasn't cut out for this. You fueled me on more than you will ever know.
Now, who fancies buying me a plane ticket to somewhere hot?
